The Protoss towers are more expensive than the other races and are a bit harder to play as. The first protoss tower, the zealot has a low range but costs 25 gold, so Protoss rely heavily on good tower placement for the first few levels.

Believe it or not, this is really a hook. Since protoss towers are more expensive, if you plan on hooking, it might be a good idea to use your Nexus for the end of it to get it up faster.

Once you have enough money to get an Advanced Builder, you can build one of 3 tech buildings, the Robotics Support Bay is the cheapest so if money is tight then get that one. This allows you to build the Reaver. They have great damage, range and splash and are one of the best defenses against ground in the game. However they drain 4 gold on each attack. With the capacity upgrade they only drain 2 per attack.

Another option is the Templar Archives, which allows you to get High and Dark Templar and Arbiters. If you select two dark templars you can merge them into a Dark Archon. The coolest feature about this tower and possibily of the protoss race is its ability to Mind Control. With it, you can take control of enemy targets. Some units have special abilities only accessible when you mind control them. It can be really fun to have a little group of mind controled units running around.

But be careful, Mind control does 200 damage to the Dark Archon who casts it, so don't get too trigger happy with it. But then again, who says you can't get many dark archons?
